PENSAMENTO E PRÁTICA DA ARTE ACTUAL

Pensamento e Prática da Arte Atual é uma unidade teórica opcional do 2º ciclo de estudos que tem como principais objetivos incentivar e enriquecer a reflexão teórica em torno da teoria e prática da arte contemporânea. A unidade propõe uma série de possibilidades reflexivas de modo a que os alunos se sintam confiantes a identificar obras de arte contemporânea significativas e os conceitos-chave que presidem à sua criação; explicar a mudança e expansão geográfica dos centros artísticos no século 21 para a Ásia e África; debater o desenvolvimento da arte contemporânea como uma série de diferentes inquéritos culturais, sociais e políticos ao longo dos últimos 50 anos; analisar a importância das obras de arte contemporânea se relacionarem com os seus contextos sociais e históricos; e identificar relações entre projetos/obras de arte contemporânea e questões sociais mais amplas, tais como ideologia, sexo, raça ou etnia.

Objectivos

Conhecimentos:

- Identificar os problemas da arte atual e definir o seu alcance;

- Reconhecer referências bibliográficas atuais e seminais;

- Refinar interesses individuais.

Aptidões:

- Melhorar a precisão e clareza das suas ideias;

- Relacionar análise bibliográfica com ideias e conceitos recolhidos por outros meios;

- Debater ideias e reconhecer as perspectivas dos outros;

Competências:

- Pesquisar de modo autónomo;

- Produzir artigos/trabalhos originais;

- Aplicar o conhecimento adquirido na prática de atelier.

PROGRAM

THOUGHT AND PRACTICE OF CURRENT ART

Thought and Practice of Current Art is an opcional theoretical course of the masters degree that aims to instigate and enrich the theory encompassing current art practice and thinking. The course develops a series of reflective possibilities so that students feel confident to identify significant works of contemporary art and the key concepts linked to their making; To explain the geographical shift and expansion of artistic centers in the 21st century to Asia and Africa; To debate the development of contemporary art as a series of different cultural, social and political inquires over the last 50 years; To examine and relate contemporary artworks according to their social and historical contexts; and to establish relationships between contemporary art and broader social issues such as ideology, gender, race or ethnicity.

Knowledge:

- Identify current art problematics and define its scope;

- Recognize current and seminal bibliographic references;

- Refine individual interests.

Proficiency:

- Improve the accuracy and clarity of their ideas;

- Relate literature review with ideas and concepts collected by other means;

- Debate ideas and recognize the perspectives of others.

Skills:

- Research independently;

- Produce original articles/papers;

- Apply the knowledge gathered in their art practice.
